Dr Andrea Bernabeu participates in “Alicante Conexión Salud” to talk about digital transformation and Artificial Intelligence in the health sector.

The Elche Convention Center hosted the “Alicante Conexión Salud” Open Innovation Forum on Health 2nd edition, organized by the FISABIO Foundation and the health department of the General University Hospital of Elche, with the support of the Valencian Agency for Innovation. The event brought together leading experts from the medical, technological and research fields.  Among them, Dr Andrea Bernabeu, Instituto Bernabeu medical codirector, who participated in the round table “Digital Transformation and Artificial Intelligence: challenges and opportunities in the health sector” together with Isabel Mesenguer, head of Business Development at ITI, Francisco Pérez, CEO of Grupo 3D Solutions and Rubén Cabrera, ophthalmology specialist at the Vega Baja Hospital and researcher at FISABIO. The round table was moderated by Fermín Crespo, General Manager of the Sociedad de Proyectos para la Transformación Digital (Society of Projects for Digital Transformation).

Dr Bernabeu shared her views and insights on the challenges and opportunities posed by digital transformation and artificial intelligence in the health sector, stressing the need to approach these innovations with a focus on improving healthcare and patient outcomes.

The use of Artificial Intelligence, especially in the healthcare field, must be done responsibly and must always be accompanied by critical thinking,” explained Dr Andrea Bernabeu. “It is a powerful tool that is undoubtedly here to stay and to revolutionise medicine,” added the doctor, who insisted that “it is a support tool for professionals to help in the decision-making during treatment, but what is clear is that the value of human care cannot be replaced by any technology”.

In fact, Instituto Bernabeu has created the first AI Specialised Unit applied to Reproductive Medicine with the aim of using this tool to optimise processes and offer the best results to patients. In practice, thanks to the use of AI in reproductive medicine, very important advances are achieved, such as, for example, the possibility of selecting the most valid embryos for transfer to the future mother, thus improving success rates and minimising possible implantation failures and, therefore, the viability of pregnancy.
