Dr Joaquín Llácer, an expert in ovarian reserve and Co-Director of Instituto Bernabeu, and Dr Ángela Llaneza, a gynaecologist and specialist in epidemiology at Instituto Bernabeu, participated in the 2nd Symposium on Controversies in Reproduction and Perinatal Medicine held on 27th and 28th September in the San Carlos Clinical Hospital in Madrid.

The professional gathering addressed the realities such as with patients who have poor ovarian response and implantation failure that are faced by doctors who work in the field of reproductive medicine. Dr Joaquín Llácer addressed one of the main issues currently faced by gynaecologists and gave a presentation on stimulation strategies for poor ovarian reserve and the importance of providing a correct diagnosis; scientific evidence; and dealing with each patient individually.

The gathering also covered the epidemic aspects of reproductive medicine, demography and changes to the population pyramid due to a decrease in the number of births. Dr Lláneza was the moderator at a round table where experts discussed how reproductive technology can contribute towards change and the need for more social policies. New family models including single mothers, lesbian couples and delayed maternity, amongst others, were also amongst the issues that were addressed.
