Dr Paolo Cirillo participates in the 7th Ferring Reproductive Medicine clinical workshop edition with a talk about endometrial pathology.

On February 2nd and 3rd, the city of Valencia hosted the 7th Clinical Workshops in Reproductive Medicine, organised by the company Ferring. Dr Paolo Cirillo, Instituto Bernabeu’s Hysteroscopy Unit coordinator, participated as moderator of the workshop entitled “Endometrial Pathology in Assisted Reproduction”.

Endometrial pathology refers to any abnormality or medical condition affecting the inner lining of the uterus, known as the endometrium. This tissue undergoes cyclical changes during the menstrual cycle and is essential for embryo implantation and pregnancy development. Endometrial pathologies can range from polyps and fibromyomas to inflammation or hormonal disorders affecting the endometrium normal structure and function.

In women, these conditions can have a significant impact on their reproductive health, reducing the chances of pregnancy. In addition, some inflammations or hormonal disorders can affect the endometrium quality, making it less receptive to the embryo.

The workshop led by Dr Cirillo explored in detail the implications of these pathologies in the context of assisted reproductive techniques and discussed the different strategies to diagnose and address these conditions in an effective way, aiming to improve the fertility treatments’ success rates.

Dr Cirillo highlighted the importance of forums such as these for the ongoing updating of healthcare professionals: “these kinds of meetings are essential for the exchange of knowledge, the discussion of clinical cases, the mutual learning among experts in the field, and contribute significantly to improving the care we provide to our patients”.

Artificial Intelligence

Furthermore, Dr Jorge Ten, director of the embryology laboratory of the Instituto Bernabeu Group, participated in the round table entitled: “Artificial Intelligence in the IVF laboratory”, moderated by Dr Irene Cuevas, from the University General Hospital of Valencia.

Dr Ten presented the data of a study made by Instituto Bernabeu in which an embryo selection algorithm based on Artificial Intelligence has been integrated and validated in time-lapse incubators, a revolution to obtain the embryo with the greatest implantation chances in the maternal uterus.
