Instituto Bernabeu research studies the relationship between morphological characteristics of the embryo and mosaicism

Instituto Bernabeu presented research work in poster format at the 9th edition of the Congress of the Association for the Study of Reproduction Biology (Asebir) held in Madrid in November. The research is based on data obtained from observing if there is a relationship between the morphological characteristics of an embryo, in accordance with Asebir criteria, and the presence of mosaicism in blastocyst biopsies.

The researchers worked on the basis that there is increased mosaicism during the division stage than during that blastocyst stage, or the embryo on day five or six of development.

The research work, which was led by embryologist Adoración Rodríguez, analysed the results obtained over a two-year period in biopsies on 1,039 blastocycts using the array CGH technique and established a relationship using the A, B, C or D morphological classification in accordance with Asebir criteria. The researchers concluded in the study that the way in which initial embryo division takes place can have an impact on the presence of mosaic embryos.
