Gynaecologist Andrea Bernabeu is selected for scientific evaluation of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology congress

Dr Andrea Bernabeu, a gynaecologist at Instituto Bernabeu, has assessed the most significant clinical data presented to the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE) congress and their importance. The event is one of the world’s leading scientific gatherings and it addresses the most relevant and ground-breaking aspects of the field of assisted reproduction and embryology. This year, it was held in Barcelona in early July. The Instituto Bernabeu scientist was selected by the scientific journal that Merck Serono issues every year in order to highlight the most significant aspects of the congress and draw the event’s conclusions.

Dr Andrea Bernabeu, Director of the Genetics and Reproduction Guidance Unit at Instituto Bernabeu, points out that the ESHRE event provides experts with an analysis of new lines of research work “in order to keep us at the very forefront in terms of knowledge.” The expert indicates that the area that presents most innovations falls within the field of embryology and molecular biology. “Universalising genetics techniques means that we are moving forward in leaps and bounds in terms of understanding the embryo during early stages of development and implantation.” With regards to the more clinical side of reproductive medicine, Dr Bernabeu points out that “the most significant changes are being made by the different stimulation strategies within a given menstrual cycle, such as random start protocols and stimulation during the luteal phase.”
