Dr José Antonio Ortiz presents in Malaga the advances of the PGT-A and PGT-M combined analysis study by next generation sequencing.

Dr José Antonio Ortiz, biochemist in the Genetics and Molecular Biology laboratory at Instituto Bernabeu Biotech, has participated in the “Advancing in the pre-implantation and postnatal genetic diagnosis” symposium, organised by Sysmex as part of the 4th Interdisciplinary Congress on Human Genetics in Malaga, held from 15th to 17th November, 2023.

In his presentation, entitled “Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis: Combined analysis of PGT-A and PGT-M by NGS”, he explained the advances being made at Instituto Bernabeu with regard to the combined analysis of PGT-A and PGT-M, a procedure used to evaluate the embryos obtained from an IVF cycle with the aim of detecting genetic (PGT-M) and chromosomal (PGT-A) disorders before implantation.

Currently, these two analyses are done separately with different techniques, but doing both at the same time using NGS (massive sequencing), “would greatly facilitate the process and would be much safer”, says Dr Ortiz. The aim, he continued, “is to always be at the forefront, and offer our patients the most innovative and accurate techniques on the market”.
