New research from Instituto Bernabeu based on the use of micronized natural progesterone versus GnRH antagonists in egg donation cycles.

Dr. Juan Carlos Castillo will present an Oral Communication at the next ESHRE Meeting of the latest research paper “Natural micronized progesterone versus a GnRH antagonist in egg-donation cycles. An extended experience ”; a new advance to improve medication in egg donors.

The current circumstances have made this scientific event, the most important in the field of Reproductive Medicine, to be held extraordinarily online this year.

Eggs donated anonymously and altruistically, which after being fertilized are transferred to the recipient mother to achieve pregnancy, constitute the most effective assisted reproduction technique.

To stimulate the production of several oocytes in a controlled way, the donor receives drugs that must be administered by subcutaneous injections. Our study wanted to investigate an alternative way to control this process, with the use of an orally administered natural hormone.

The results have been optimal. The studied medication gave similar results regarding the number of eggs obtained compared to conventional medications and the results in the recipient mother were excellent. The strategy, in addition to being effective, is less demanding for young egg donors. This improvement in the comfort of drug administration will facilitate egg donation processes.
