Diagnostic hysteroscopy

Diagnostic hysteroscopy

Diagnostic hysteroscopy is a technique that is offered at Instituto Bernabeu on an outpatient basis, providing a diagnosis without causing any major discomfort to the patient as it eliminates the need for bed rest, anaesthesia and surgery.

A very small caliber optic lens is inserted through the vagina and cervix, facilitated by the infusion of saline solution in order to expand the endometrial cavity allowing for a good view.

If considered necessary targeted biopsies can be completed under direct visual monitoring.

The procedure lasts no more than 5 to 10 minutes and then the patient can resume normal daily activities.

A muscle relaxant and painkiller are administered to the patient in advance of the procedure to avoid the slight discomfort similar to that of period pain that may be experienced.

The principal indications for outpatient diagnostic hysteroscopy are:

• Study of infertility and implantation failures
• Study of the endometrial cavity prior to assisted reproduction treatments
• Suspected endometrial polyps.
• Suspected submucosal fibroids.
• Removal of foreign bodies and IUD
• Study of menstrual disorders
• Suspected uterine septum
• Suspected uterine adhesions

Instituto Bernabeu has a medical team specialised in endoscopic surgery.
