Instituto Bernabeu has taken a major step forward in the field of reproductive medicine with the design and incorporation of a new computerised embryo traceability system that has already been implemented in all the assisted reproduction laboratories at its clinics.

Dr Jorge Ten, the Embryology Unit director, explains that this is the ‘VRepro Witness system, developed in collaboration with the technology company Naturalsoft, the result of several years of joint work. This innovation optimises processes in in vitro fertilisation laboratories and ensures absolute control of each critical phase, from oocyte retrieval to embryo transfer’.

One of the main features of this tool is its full integration into a single platform. The software brings together the medical history, images and monitoring of embryonic development, together with the traceability system, in a single environment. This provides Instituto Bernabeu’s embryologists with all the information in a centralised and connected format, facilitating more agile and secure data management during treatments.

The system also incorporates advanced features that provide additional security in the most delicate steps. These include double verification by a second specialist in key procedures such as sperm microinjection or oocyte cryopreservation. This protocol reinforces reliability and minimises any margin for error, contributing to both patients and medical teams’ peace of mind.

Another distinguishing feature of the new software, designed to meet the needs of its patients, is its ability to automatically recognise and record the material used in each process. Thanks to this functionality, the laboratory can precisely control which resources are used in each procedure, adding an extra layer of traceability and security to human control.

The system is already in operation in all Instituto Bernabeu’s in vitro fertilisation laboratories and represents a technological advance that allows clinical and laboratory management to be unified in a single platform. Its implementation reinforces quality and safety standards in assisted reproduction and sets a new benchmark in the use of digital tools applied to reproductive medicine.
