Instituto Bernabeu Venice at the XXXII International Congress on Law and the Human Genome with the participation of Sara Dalla Costaa
March, 25th 2026
Our colleague Sara Dalla Costa, lawyer and coordinator of Instituto Bernabeu Venice, participated in the XXXII International Congress on Law and the Human Genome: Genetics, Biotechnology and Advanced Medicine, held in Bilbao this week.
Under the title “Cross-border flows of gametes and embryos in Europe: interaction between the SOHO Regulation and the European Health Data Space (EHDS) in the Italy-Spain case”, she examines the legal and bioethical consequences of this dependence: limited health sovereignty, inequality in access to assisted reproduction techniques, challenges in reproductive data governance, and protection of the rights of donors and recipients. The communication proposes a comparative and interdisciplinary analysis that integrates the physical flow of biological material regulated by SOHO with the associated data flow regulated by EHDS, identifying systemic risks and offering criteria to harmonize the cross-border circulation of gametes and embryos, ensuring security, equity, and human dignity.
Her participation reflected the multidisciplinary vision of Instituto Bernabeu, which integrates medicine, law, bioethics, and scientific research to foster a dialogue that contributes to reconciling European legislative differences in the field of assisted reproduction.
