New publication in Fertility and Sterility on the development of children born after mosaic embryo transfer, a new study by Instituto Bernabeu

The American journal Fertility and Sterility is the official publication of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM), although its reach is international and its editorial boards and members are distributed across different countries worldwide. For all of us at Instituto Bernabeu, it is a source of satisfaction that our advances are regularly featured.
On this occasion, it has published a recent study in which we analyzed the safety of mosaic embryo transfer. Although this type of embryo has been transferred for years with reassuring clinical results, evidence regarding children’s health in the medium term remained limited, especially beyond birth.
The study, led by Dr. Ruth Morales, Director of the Genetic and Reproductive Counseling Unit at Instituto Bernabeu, analyzed and compared the health of children born after the transfer of mosaic embryos and chromosomally normal embryos.
The study included detailed clinical follow-up up to three years of age, evaluating variables related to pregnancy, childbirth, and different indicators of child health and development. The results showed no differences between the two groups during pregnancy, delivery, or in the children’s health during their early years. Parameters such as birth weight, growth, hospital admissions, or the appearance of health problems were similar in all cases.
According to the study’s conclusions, the transfer of low-grade mosaic embryos can lead to the birth of healthy children, with development comparable to that of embryos considered normal. These findings provide scientific evidence that helps offer greater reassurance to families facing this reproductive option, while emphasizing the importance of continuing long-term follow-up.
