Oral glucose loads in pregnant women: Who are they performed for? How are they performed? Why are they performed? And what are the diagnostic values?

Oral glucose loads are performed for pregnant women who have a positive O’Sullivan’s test result. Fasting is required, and glucose levels are tested 1, 2 and 3 hours after administering a 100g oral glucose load. The results are considered positive and, consequently, there is Gestational Diabetes when 2 or more values exceed certain pre-established thresholds.
