The Spanish Society of Gynaecology and Obstretrics has turned to Instituto Bernabeu to write their clinical guide on ‘Genetic studies in reproduction disorders’

The Spanish Society of Gynaecology and Obstetrics (SEGO) has turned to Instituto Bernabeu to write about ‘Genetic Studies in Reproduction Disorders. Pre-implantation genetic diagnosis. Pre-conception counselling’ for the society’s clinical guide. The guide is a framework document including protocols edited as a means of support for Spanish gynaecologists in their professional fields and which include methods and techniques for medical practice.

The study, which was carried out by Doctors Andrea Bernabeu, & Rafael Bernabeu, refers to genetic factors as one of the most common causes of reproduction failure and guides experts towards recommended studies, depending on the specific issue which patients with genetic abnormalities or with certain characteristics have. It is based on accepted, tried and tested techniques used by specialists in each area and is a means of support for experts when determining a line of treatment.

In their study, the doctors at Instituto Bernabeu indicate that the connection between genetics and infertility is increasingly clear. Therefore, an understanding of the genetic causes in couples with reproduction issues gives a greater understanding of the genetic tests which ought to be carried out and the infertility diagnosis. In doing so, it increases success rates in assisted reproduction treatment.

Stimulation of scientific progress within the specialist field of gynaecology and obstetrics and improvement of healthcare quality within that field, are two of SEGO’s aims.
