recurrent implantation failure

Assisted hatching

Assisted hatching is a laboratory technique that consists of making a small hole in the zona pellucida, the membrane surrounding the embryo, in order to make it easier for the embryo to hatch out (something that naturally needs to happen) and implant in the uterus. […]

New examination aimed at testing couples with recurrent implantation failure

Instituto Bernabeu focusses on providing personalised solutions, particularly in cases of patients with a difficult reproductive prognosis (low ovarian reserve and recurrent implantation failure (RIF)).
Carrying out a number of empirical tests and treatments has, on occasions, been put forward as an option in the case of patients suffering from recurrent implantation failure. The latter have proven to be of questionable efficacy and the former have proven to be of limited or no use.
One of the proposed strategies for patients with recurrent implantation failure (RIF) that is providing many of these cases with solutions, is IVF (in vitro fertilisation) with elective freezing and biopsies on all embryos so that the frozen embryos can later be transferred during a natural cycle. In other words, without any hormone treatment.
It is possible to recreate the conditions under which transfer takes place during treatment of this kind by carrying out a mock cycle and evaluating a series of parameters that can influence transfer success. […]

Could it be implantation failure why I don’t get pregnant? Diagnosis in one day.

Achieving pregnancy when pregnancy does not come is one of the challenges the medical team at Instituto Bernabeu faces every day. One of the most important challenges of female infertility is implantation failure. The embryo does not get to nest in the maternal uterus or it does but the woman undergoes an early miscarriage, which produces a great frustration. The couple should put themselves as soon as possible in the hands of the specialist and not leave to chance or wait the passage of time to solve a situation that requires a personalized study.
Instituto Bernabeu Medical Director, Dr Rafael Bernabeu explains: “The causes of implantation failure are multiple, but contrary to the general opinion, patients believe they are causing the problem when, in fact, to a great extent the problem is embryonic”. Therefore, the medical centre global benchmark in reproductive medicine develops a study of the three patients: “The mother, the father and the embryo.” Twenty-five percent of embryo implantation failures cases, “do not have a clear cause” and in many cases, there is a combination of factors that can be combined, warns Dr Rafael Bernabeu. Not only are environmental and immunological factors, they are also due to the intake of certain foods and even to the cosmetics used. “We are exposed to tens of thousands of chemical substances and many generate disorders and among them may be the cause of repeated miscarriage and implantation failure,” says Dr Bernabeu. […]

Diagnostic hysteroscopy and endometrial scratching

We consider an evaluation of the uterine cavity and a check to ensure normal structure in the tissue that lines it (the endometrium) to be a standard part of any implantation failure study. In order to carry out such a study, the most appropriate diagnosis consists of a diagnostic hysteroscopy and an endometrial biopsy.
A hysteroscopy is an endoscopy of the uterus. In other words, direct inspection of the uterine cavity using an optical system. It’s a simple test and practically pain free in most cases. Therefore, it is generally carried out during an appointment with minimal patient preparation and no impact on her daily life. […]
