The Spanish Fertility Society has turned to Instituto Bernabeu to write about Genetic Studies in Reproduction Disorders for its clinical guide aimed at gynaecologists.

• It is a document to which experts will turn when determining specific treatment based on accepted, tried and tested techniques used by specialists.

Instituto Bernabeu in Alicante has presented ‘Genetic Studies in Reproduction Disorders. Pre-implantation Genetic Diagnosis. Preconception Counselling’ for the guide published by the Spanish Fertility Society (SEF). The society has recently published its Clinical Practice Guide including protocols edited as a means of support for Spanish gynaecologists in their professional fields and which include methods and techniques for medical practice. These documents are a common framework for the diagnosis and treatment of reproduction issues.

The study, which was carried out by Doctors Andrea Bernabeu, Rafael Bernabeu and Ll. Aparicio, refers to genetic factors as one of the most common causes of reproduction failure and guides experts towards recommended studies, depending on the specific issue which patients with genetic abnormalities or with certain characteristics have. It is based on accepted, tried and tested techniques used by specialists in each area and is a means of support for experts when determining a line of treatment.

In their study, the doctors at Instituto Bernabeu indicate that the connection between genetics and infertility is increasingly clear. Therefore, an understanding of the genetic causes in couples with reproduction issues gives a greater understanding of the genetic tests which ought to be carried out and the infertility diagnosis. In doing so, it increases success rates in assisted reproduction treatment.
