According to a study performed by Instituto Bernabeu, heparin improves prognosis in patients who have suffered from recurrent pregnancy loss and implantation failure

25-07-2018

Research carried out by Instituto Bernabeu has concluded that the use of heparin, an anticoagulant drug, improves prognosis in courses of in vitro fertilisation treatment (IVF) and ICSI (intracytoplasmic sperm injection) in patients who have experienced recurrent pregnancy loss or repeated implantation failure.

The study, led by Dr Ana Fabregat, was submitted to the Spanish Fertility Society congress and it analyses treatment in women who are oocyte recipients (with the aim of eliminating the age factor as a cause of pregnancy loss) with a background of recurrent pregnancy loss and repeated implantation failure and whose laboratory test results were normal in all cases. The research work concluded that the chances of pregnancy in patients treated with heparin were five times greater than in patients who had not received it.

Up until now, heparin was administered to thrombophilia patients who have experienced recurrent pregnancy loss and repeated implantation failure. This study went a step further by analysing the cases of patients who had normal results in laboratory tests.

Instituto Bernabeu has a specific Recurrent Pregnancy Loss and Repeated Implantation Failure Unit that personalises treatment for each patient, adapting it to her needs and specific case.

¿Es útil la administración de heparina para mejorar el pronóstico en casos de abortos de repetición y/o fallos de implantación cuando el perfil de trombofilias y/o inmune no está alterado. Fabregat Reolid, A.; Soria Moya, L.; Ortiz Salcedo, JA.; Guerrero Villena, J.; Garcia Hernández, E.; Turienzo Díez A.; Lledó Bosch, B.; Bernabeu Pérez, R. Comunicación oral.
