Chair UMH

Thanks to the cooperation of the Universidad Miguel Hernández, we have the honour of being the Seat of the first Centre of Reproductive Medicine created in Europe.

Since it was first established, Instituto Bernabeu has not only played a supporting role, but has also been involved in teaching and research, whilst maintaining various agreements with the universities of Alicante, Elche, Murcia, Valencia and Barcelona, as well as supporting the development of doctoral theses and providing internships for students and postgraduates. The Institute is recognized by the Spanish Ministry of Education as a centre for further education in the field of Assisted Reproduction Techniques for those specialising in Gynaecology and Obstetrics, and during the last ten years, several graduates have taken the M.I.R. (Médico Interno Residente, an exam that enables them to access the Spanish medical training program) at our institute.

The ambition of coordinating and centralising all these aspects in one single unit has led us to the creation of the Chair of Reproductive Medicine of the Universidad Miguel Hernandéz.

As laid down in its statutes, the aims of the Centre of Reproductive Medicine are as follows:

Researchers

  • Fulfilment of individual and joint research projects.
  • Development of theses and dissertations.
  • Publication of theses and research projects of recognized scientific quality.
  • Development of I+D+I projects in relation to matters concerning the Centre.
  • Recruitment of research personnel for the design and tutoring of observational and experimental work in relation to the described areas.

Tutors

  • Organisation of courses, seminars and conferences.
  • Postgraduate studies, Masters and Doctorates at national and international universities.
  • Recruitment of personnel for the organisation of training courses and scientific activities.

Spreading the word

  • Organisation of forum discussions on major problems facing women.
  • Raising public awareness of the importance of reproductive issues and the social impact of these problems via the media.
  • Recruitment of personnel responsible for providing information to the public in relation to the areas described above.

The Centre of Reproductive Medicine is run by Dr. Rafael Bernabeu Pérez and Professor D. Jesús Romero Maroto, Chair of the urology department at the University of Miguel Hernández, and it is managed by a committee formed by members of the medical department at Instituto Bernabeu, the University of Miguel Hernández and the Vice-Chairman of the technological research and development department, Professor Salvador Viniegra.
