Chair UMH

Thanks to the cooperation of the Universidad Miguel Hernández, we have the honour of being the first Chair of Reproductive Medicine created in Europe.

From its origins, the Instituto Bernabeu has not only played an assisting role, but has also been teaching and investigating while maintaining different agreements with the universities of Alicante, Elche, Murcia, Valencia and Barcelona such as the realization of doctoral thesis and internships for students and postgraduates. It is recognized by the Spanish Ministry of Education as a centre for further education in the field of Assisted Reproduction Techniques for specialists in Gynaecology and Obstetrics, and during the last 10 years, several graduates undertake the M.I.R. (Medical Intern Resident) in our premises.

The ambition to coordinate and centralize all these aspects in one single structure has led us to the creation of the Chair of Reproductive Medicine of the university of Miguel Hernandéz.

As it is laid down in its statutes, the aims of the Chair of Reproductive Medicine are as the following:

Researchers

  • Realization of individual and joint research works.
  • Elaboration of thesis and dissertations.
  • Publication of thesis and research works of recognized scientific quality standard.
  • Development of I+D+I projects in relation to the thematic content of the Chair.
  • Recruitment of research personnel for the design and tutoring of observational and experimental works in relation to the described areas.

Tutors

  • Organization of courses, seminars and conferences.
  • Realization of Postgraduate studies, Masters and PhD’s at national and international universities.
  • Personnel recruitment for the organization of training courses and scientific activities.

Spreading the word

  • Organisation of forum discussions about the problems women are most concerned about.
  • Interventions through media in order to raise public awareness about the importance of those problems related to the field of reproduction and its social impact.
  • Recruitment of personnel responsible for disseminating information to the public in relation to the subjet matter as described above.

The Chair of Reproductive Medicine is run by Dr. Rafael Bernabeu Pérez and Professor D. Jesús Romero Maroto, Chair of the urology department at the University of Miguel Hernández, and it is managed by a committee formed by members of the medical department of the Instituto Bernabeu, the University of Miguel Hernández and the vice-chairman of the technological research and development department, Professor Salvador Viniegra.
