Thanks to the ICSI treatment, 95% of men who have serious fertility issues will be able to have their own child. Only one spermatozoid is placed via microinjection inside the oocytes in order to achieve fertilisation.

ICSI treatment is recommended for the following cases:

  • The spermatozoids have limited mobility, abnormalities or the count is too low.
  • The spermatozoids are correctly formed in the testicle, but are not present in the ejaculate due to obstruction or other reasons.
  • The interaction between the oocyte layer and the spermatozoid is not correct and the spermatozoid can not make its way through.
  • Certain males who lack spermatozoids in their ejaculate.
ICSI treatment in Spain

The first pregnancy in Spain (1998) by means of intracytoplasmic injection (ICSI) using spermatids was achieved at Instituto Bernabeu. That is to say, by injecting the testicular cells that are not completely distinguished as spermatozoids.
